Bone Mineral Density Machine - 2010

A Bone Mineral Density (BMD) test is the only way to detect low bone density and diagnose osteoporosis. The lower a person's bone mineral density, the greater the risk of having a fracture.   A BMD test is used to:

  • Detect low bone density before a person breaks a bone
  • Predict a person's chances of breaking a bone in the future
  • Confirm a diagnosis of osteoporosis when a person has already broken a bone
  • Determine whether a person's bone density is increasing, decreasing or remaining stable (the same)
  • Monitor a person's response to treatment

Thanks to your community support, we are able to retain this service in Kincardine.  We thank you for your generosity!

The Hematology Analyzer - 2009

Hematology Analyzer

The Hematology Analyzer was our last years project. And thanks to you, we raised our goal of $75,000.00.

Hematology Analyzer is used to assist in the diagnosis of things like anemia, leukemia, and infection.

Hematology Analyzer is one of the main tools of Kincardine's Hematology department that runs roughly 10,000 complete blood counts per year. It is one of the most common blood profiles ordered by the physician.

Thank you for your support!

 Mammogram Unit - 2008

Thank you to everyone that donated to the 2008 CKNX Radiothon Project.  With your thoughtful donations we were able to purchase a new Mammogram Unit  ($300,000.00+) for the Diagnostic Imaging Department for the Kincardine Hospital.

The Mammography unit will create electronic images, which require no film. The images are stored directly on the computer. Radiologists can use the computer-based technology to adjust the brightness of the image, change the contrast and zoom in for close-ups. None of this can be done with film-based x-ray images. Clinical studies show that when using the type of digital mammography system, radiologists have detected breast cancer with a higher degree of confidence than was previously possible with conventional film-based mammography.

Thanks to your support, we can offer leading edge technology to all women in the battle against Breast Cancer.
